God has blessed me to know about Tennis Ministries around the world.
The following are active year- round ministries for tennis that I personally
know about. Please contact me if you are aware of others. Let
us join together in prayer that many more will be identified and started
in the year 2000.
Australia
-
The 2000 Sydney Olympics ministry is now taking place and efforts are
being made to organize tennis workshops and clinics around the country.
Christian athletes and coaches will be able to share the Gospel as they
teach.
-
A tennis player acts as a Chaplain to the top junior players in Queensland.
He is currently teaching tennis part-time and the remainder of his time
is spent ministering to the players.
Caribbean
-
Anguilla: a tennis academy with a Christian focus has been started.
Asia
-
Hong Kong: Tennis Ambassadors is now organizing free tennis clinics
for the public utilizing churches, volunteer coaches, a major equipment
provider and written testimony of Michael Chang.

Hong Kong: A retired person and coach is offering to train Christians
who are out of work and rehabilitated Christian drug addicts to teach tennis.
This will provide them an income and at the same time they will reach others
with the Gospel.

Tennis Ambassadors organizes short and long-term mission tennis trips
to Asia.
Eastern Europe
-
Singer Cliff Richards funds a group of Christian tennis coaches to teach
tennis to needy children. The coaches work with the local churches
in identifying those in need.
Africa
-
South Africa: A person has started a Christian tennis magazine.
They currently print 20,000 copies a month. Each magazine has
a section called “Playing for Jesus” and player testimonies are frequently
published.
USA
-
Florida: A coach has organized Bible studies for local coaches and tennis
players. They first have study and then play tennis. Coaches
and students participate.

Florida: A coach operates a tennis club on land owned by the local Baptist
church. The club has been in existence for over 20 years. They
use it as an avenue to reach others for Christ in the area.

Florida: A tennis academy has been started with a Christian focus.

Florida: A couple who coach, give Pastors and their family greatly discounted
prices on lessons.

Florida: US Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Christian coaches
met recently at their international conference to share ideas about how
to have a Christian influence in the coaches’ organization.

South Carolina: US Professional Tennis Registry (USPTR) Christian coaches
are currently organizing a fellowship meeting for the International Symposium
2000.

South Carolina: A group of Hilton Head Island Baptist churches have
organized volunteer actives for the Family Circle Cup Women's tournament.
Among their many activities is a Sunday service that has a retired Christian
woman's professional player as a speaker.

Virginia: A club is operating as a tennis ministry and has a successful
junior program.

Texas: A camp and club are tennis ministries. They have operated
for many years.

California: A club in San Francisco is owned by a church and is an outreach
program.

Nebraska: A Christian university conducted a successful tennis camp
for the purpose of fundraising for the team.

Washington: A ministry conducts a summer tennis camp.
Worldwide
-
A retired touring professional started a Tenniseministry, reaching out
to playing pro's through email newsletters.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes, FCA operates sports specific camps
for juniors, including tennis.

Athletes In Action, AIA, Christian Sports Outreach International conducts
overseas mission trips for all sports, including tennis.

An organization working with Christian sports has located several short
and long term tennis coaching opportunities in developing countries.

Tennis Ambassadors conducts a monthly Internet chat at their website
for Christian tennis players, coaches and fans worldwide.
It is the plan of God, as revealed in Scripture, to bring believers
together for edification and unity. We can do this as tennis players.
It is not to late for you to start a tennis ministry in your area.
